Electrical Power Engineering

The study program Electrical Power Engineering will enable the graduate to expand their knowledge in heavy current electrical engineering and power engineering and deepen it in the chosen specialization. Thanks to the acquired knowledge, the graduate will be ready to solve complex technical problems that come with new technologies, new requirements for the management of industrial systems, and a higher degree of production automation. The graduate will gain knowledge in systems for ensuring electricity supply, in provisions for electricity quality, EMC equipment, and industrial systems, in the use and consumption of electricity, in the possibilities of using electrical machines and power electronic systems, and in the basics of electrothermal and lighting technology. They will know the issue of the influence of electrical equipment on the power supply system and the principles of minimizing negative phenomena.

Specializations of the study program

Power Electronics and Drives

During the study, the graduate of this specialization will gain knowledge in particular:
- new structures of power semiconductor converters and drives, converters and drives with increased energy efficiency and high power density,
- electrical systems for vehicles, robots and manipulators, industrial and energy technologies, energy networks and mechatronic systems,
- necessary for the design of power electronic technologies and electric drives and modern ways of their control.

Electric machines

During the study, the graduate of this specialization will gain knowledge in particular:
- new principles, materials, technologies of production of modern electrical machines and their structural arrangements,
- cooling and heat dissipation methods,
- modern methods of their electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical design,
- simulation and modeling of operating parameters of modern electrical machines for different load modes.



Electrical Power Engineering

During the study, the graduate of the specialization will gain knowledge in particular:
- in the field of production, transmission, distribution, and use of electricity and heat,
- operating and fault conditions of the electricity system and will be ready to address the increased demands on the operational management of electricity networks connected with the growing share of decentralized sources and the increasing requirements for reliability and quality of electricity supply.

The graduate focusing on the operation and control of the power system will be able to design individual elements of electrical networks and protection and security systems and gain deeper knowledge in modeling and simulation of operating and fault conditions.

The graduate focusing on electricity and heat generation technologies will gain knowledge about the operation and design of conventional and unconventional source technologies, including technologies designed to improve systems' energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of the energy industry.

Electronics and Information Technology

The study program will enable the graduate to expand knowledge in electronics and information technology, and further deepen it in the chosen specialization. Thanks to the acquired knowledge, he/she will be ready to solve complex technical problems that come with new technologies, new requirements for the technical level, and the specifics of electronic and communication systems in the society. The graduate will gain knowledge in the design, development, implementation, and diagnostics of electronic, information, and communication systems. He/she will gain experience in the field of power electronics and electric drives, but also programming, synthesis of electronic and communication circuits, design and synthesis of operational safety systems, applications of sensor technology, communication and bus systems, electronic systems for industrial process control and electromagnetic compatibility in both high and the low-frequency range.

Specializations of the study program

Electronics

During the study, the graduate of this specialization will gain knowledge in particular:
- in the field of design and development of analog, digital processor structures of electronic systems and their programming, including diagnostic tools using modeling and simulation tools,
- in the field of physical instrumentation, in particular the design of ionizing radiation detectors and electronic systems needed for the acquisition and further processing of data from detectors.

Information and communication technologies

During the study, the graduate of the specialization will gain knowledge in particular:
- knowledge of communication and multimedia systems,
- space technology, microwave technology, communication, and computer networks and functionally secure systems.



Power Electronics

During the study, the graduate of this specialization will gain knowledge in particular:
- new structures of power semiconductor converters and drives, converters and drives with increased energy efficiency and high power density,
- solutions for electrical systems for vehicles, robots and manipulators, industrial and energy technologies and mechatronic systems,
- modern ways of managing the systems mentioned above. The graduate can design, implement, and program control systems for industrial and automation technologies, transportation systems, and energy applications.

Materials and Technologies for Electrical Engineering

The study program Materials and Technologies for Electrical Engineering prepares experts with a focus on the development and application of electrotechnical materials, production technologies and their management in the field of the electrical engineering industry. The study program is designed to enable students to acquire the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge. Graduates of the program are prepared so that they can:
- find employment in professional and managerial positions in practice,
- continue the doctoral study program,
- become self-employed in the field.

Contents of the study

- the graduate will gain the necessary theoretical knowledge and overview of all key areas of the life cycle of an electrical product (from design, through implementation to operation, including disposal and recycling),
- during their studies, they will deepen their knowledge of conventional and special materials and technologies, used diagnostic methods or methods and tools for process control within the entire product life cycle by choosing compulsory elective subjects,
- great emphasis is placed on preparation for independent creative work in the form of involvement in expert projects,



- the graduate will have the knowledge and skills to solve problems in the fields of materials, production technologies, and diagnostics in electrical engineering, which are essential for the future sustainability and competitiveness of the industry. The primary feature of the study program is multidisciplinarity with application in many industries,
- the graduate will know the principles and applications in the fields of materials and technologies in electrical engineering. These are mainly semiconductor, magnetic and dielectric materials, contacting issues, production, and diagnostic processes, etc., as well as advanced materials and technologies (organic, printed, flexible, and wearable electronics, smart textiles, sensors, nanotechnology, ecological material resources) and methods of their characterization and interpretation of measured data.

Applied Electrical Engineering

The study program deepens a broad universal basis across all electrical engineering areas, but not at the expense of the quality of knowledge gained. Within the program, you will choose to focus on a group of courses from high-current or low-current electrical engineering, thanks to which you will be very adaptable to the requirements of your job after graduation. Completing the program will allow you to find employment in interdisciplinary applications and many specialized fields. While studying this program, you will deepen the theoretical foundations and application knowledge in electrical engineering that overlap with other fields.

Program focus

Low-current electrical engineering

Graduates of low-current electrical engineering will be able to:
- use knowledge of information technology for electrical engineering and related applications,
- explain signal processing and select control bus according to system type,
- design the interconnection of industrial control systems using industrial buses and communications,
- work with professional databases, create electrical diagrams and documents,
- analyze a project with built-in electronics.



Heavy-current electrical engineering

Graduates of heavy-current electrical engineering will be able to:
- explain the principles of transmission and distribution network solutions in terms of design and mode of operation, operational and economic importance,
- design the electrical diagram of the power plant, calculate the size of the sources of own consumption; the minimum required short-circuit power,
- carry out a balance of energy systems, determine load indicators, break down the costs of electricity generation into appropriate categories,
- design and dimension electric drives and calculate the characteristics of an electric machine, design power electronic systems,
- use temperature sensors, sensors of mechanical quantities, sensors of security systems, sensors for the automotive industry, flow meters.
