How does the admission process work?

• Submitting the e-application

  • You must fill in the electronic application form via eprihlaska.zcu.cz.

  • After submission, you are required to pay the application fee (the amount and payment instructions are provided within the e-application system).

• Assessment of documents and entrance interview

  • Your application and submitted documents will be reviewed.

  • Afterwards, you will be invited to the entrance interview (online).

• Evaluation of previous education

  • Your previous education (equivalency of your diploma) will be verified through an evaluation procedure.

  • This process is subject to a fee of 500 CZK.

• Admission decision and tuition fee

  • If all requirements are met (complete documents and successful entrance interview), you will be asked to pay the tuition fee.

  • After the tuition fee is paid, the Decision on admission to study will be issued.

• Visa application

  • Only with the official documents (Decision on admission and other required documents, e.g. the accommodation contract) can you apply for a student visa.

What will I need to apply for the visa?

For students from selected countries, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers the so-called Student Mode, which may help speed up the process of scheduling a visa appointment at the Embassy of the Czech Republic. If you are eligible, we will inform you after your admission decision.

To apply for a visa, you will need:

• Admission documents issued by the University (Decision on Admission / Acceptance Letter, Accommodation contract - if you wish to stay at UWB dormitory).

• Additional documents required by the Czech Embassy in your country (passport, proof of sufficient financial means, proof of medical insurance, proof of accommodation, etc.). The exact list is available on the Embassy’s official website.

Please note: The University’s assistance ends with issuing the required admission documents. We cannot enter into, influence, or support the visa procedure in any way. All visa matters are strictly handled by the Czech authorities, and it is the responsibility of each student to submit a complete application and attend the Embassy interview.

During the visa interview, you may be asked about your chosen study programme, your motivation to study in the Czech Republic, and your knowledge about our University and Faculty. If you are unsure, you can check our website or contact us for general information about study matters.

Visa processing may take up to two to three months. Apply as early as possible after receiving your admission documents.

By when do I have to arrive?

• For Doctoral study programmes, the arrival date is set individually, but preferably no later than the end of October.

• For Master’s programmes, we strongly recommend arrival by the beginning of the semester (September) to get settled and arrange all that is necessary for your smooth start.

How to get to Pilsen?

You will most likely arrive at Prague International Airport. From Prague to Pilsen (about 100 km), you can travel:

• by direct bus (~1 hour 20 minutes),

• by train (~1 hour 30 minutes),

• by taxi (~1 hour, but much more expensive).

Check your bus/train schedule from Prague to Pilsen.

Will someone help me when I arrive?

Yes!

• The University International Office and our Faculty Office for International Relations will help you with accommodation, bank account, SIM card, orientation in the city and on campus.

• We also recommend joining our buddy programme, where Czech and senior international students help newcomers with daily life and studies.

What are the living costs?

The Czech Republic is a very affordable country. Quality of education is comparable to countries in the world and the living costs will not put you down 😉 Average monthly expenses in EUR:

• UWB dormitory: 90–130
• Private apartment: 210+
• Public transport card: 11
• Food (canteen + self-cooking): 130
• Other expenses (study materials, culture, sports): 70

Where will I live?

• University dormitories: guaranteed for international students, affordable, including utilities and wi-fi. The accommodation contract is required for visa application.

• Private housing: if you prefer higher standards, you can rent an apartment. Some housing companies (e.g. Heimstaden) offer options close to campus.

How does it work with the city traffic?

Pilsen has a reliable, safe and cheap public transport network (trams, buses, trolleybuses). With a student card, you can travel all around the city easily.

What can I do in my free time?

Pilsen is a lively student city: theatres, cinemas, museums, concerts, sports facilities, gyms, hiking and nature nearby. Student clubs and organizations offer many events where you can meet Czech and international students.

Can I take a spouse / family member / friend with me?

Yes, but please note:

• Our services are focused on students. We do not provide support for spouses or dependents.

• Their visas, accommodation, and healthcare must be arranged individually.

• All expenses for accompanying persons are your responsibility.

What about health insurance and medical care?

• Students from outside the EU must have valid medical insurance covering their whole stay.

• Insurance must be arranged before applying for the visa.

• Healthcare in the Czech Republic is of good quality, and many doctors speak English. We also recommend using our Faculty support or ask for advice.
